Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is the second most important vegetable crop in India next only to potato. In India, it is cultivated over an area of 5.94 lakh hectares with a production of 98.78 lakh tones. The average productivity is about 16.6 tonnes/hectare. In India, the main tomato producing states are Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Karnataka and Bihar . It is good source of vitamin A, B, and C.
